AGV/AMR Design Engineer

  • Company: Robonetics Automation Solutions LLP
  • Location: Chennai / Singaperumal Koil, Tamil Nadu
  • Department: Product Design & Engineering
  • Reports to: Co-Founder & CTO
About Robonetics:

Robonetics designs and manufactures the AIRA series of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) — Mover, Stacker, Reach Truck, Jack, and Car Mover — used by automobile OEMs, two-wheeler manufacturers, and Tier-1 suppliers to replace manual forklifts with SLAM-navigated, ±10mm-accurate autonomous material handling. We’re India’s home-grown answer to imported AMR/AGV systems, built for dark-factory-grade automation.

Role Summary

We’re looking for an AGV/AMR Design Engineer to own the mechanical and structural design of our autonomous forklift platforms — from concept through prototyping, testing, and production handoff. You’ll work closely with controls, electrical, and software teams to design robots that are safe, serviceable, and manufacturable at scale.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design mechanical structures and subsystems for AGV/AMR platforms (chassis, mast/lift mechanisms, drive units, fork/load-handling assemblies) across the AIRA product line
  • Develop 3D CAD models, GD&T drawings, and BOMs (SolidWorks/Creo/Inventor or equivalent)
  • Perform structural, load, and stress analysis (FEA) for lift mechanisms, forks, and chassis under rated payloads (1–6 T range)
  • Design for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA), working with local fabrication and machining vendors
  • Integrate mechanical design with electrical, sensor (LiDAR/SLAM), and battery/charging subsystems
  • Build and test prototypes; run validation for load capacity, lift height, positioning accuracy (±10mm), and safety compliance (ISO 3691-4, Safety Category 3/PL d)
  • Support design for VDA 5050 and CE-compliance requirements as products scale to export markets
  • Own design documentation, revision control, and technical specs for manufacturing handoff
  • Collaborate with the controls/software team on kinematics, motor sizing, and actuator selection
  • Drive continuous design improvement based on field feedback from deployed units
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
  • 3–8 years of experience in mechanical design of AGVs, AMRs, forklifts, or material handling equipment
  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar) and FEA tools (ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation)
  • Hands-on experience with lift mechanisms, mast design, hydraulic/electric actuation, or similar load-bearing systems
  • Understanding of motor/actuator sizing, gearbox selection, and drivetrain design
  • Familiarity with sheet metal, machining, and welding fabrication processes
  • Experience designing for safety standards (ISO 3691-4, IEC 61508, or equivalent) is a strong plus
What We Offer
  • Ownership of core product design at a fast-growing, India-based robotics manufacturer
  • Direct exposure to automotive OEM and Tier-1 deployments
  • A small, hands-on engineering team where design decisions ship fast
